KATHMANDU, JUN 05 - The Constituent Assembly ( CA ) meeting has been postponed for Monday as the leading political parties demanded more time to reach consensus regarding the new Constitution.

Prior to today, the top leaders of major parties assured Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang that they were getting close to forge a consensus that  would give Nepal a new constitution. The press statement release by CA secretariat stated that the reason for the date shift was the busy schedule of CA members currently working for disaster relief in different parts of the affected areas. The meeting was scheduled to take place last Thursday which was also cancelled due to  disputes in the drafting process.

Before the April 25 earthquake, Congress and UML were preparing to move ahead on the basis of two-third majority in the CA two which was opposed by the opposition parties mainly UCPN Maoist and Madhesh-Based Parties who demanded consensus promulgating all-round involvement.

If parties reach an agreement, the Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC) led by UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai will once again be formed.
